The Scam Trend Score aggregates month-over-month search volume changes across 0 fraud-related keywords, weighted by search volume. A score of 50 indicates stable activity; scores above 50 suggest increasing consumer interest in scam-related searches, while scores below 50 indicate declining interest.

  • MoM Calculation: (Current - Previous) / Previous × 100
  • Weighting: Square root of volume prevents high-volume terms from dominating
  • Normalization: 0% weighted change = 50 points; ±25% change ≈ 0 or 100
  • Spiking Threshold: Keywords with >20% MoM increase flagged as “spiking”
  • Score Range: 0–100 (clamped)
  • Caching: Data cached for 24 hours to optimize API usage
  • Outlier Handling: Extreme values (>200% or <-100%) excluded from average
